DIY Thursday: Distressed Ripped Boyfriend Jeans

In this DIY series, we show you simple, cost-effective and creative ways of turning the old into new or adding a little pretty into your home or wardrobe without breaking the bank. We all know shopping is great but there is a little something special about looking at something and knowing you've made it with your own two hands.

This week: DIY Ripped Distressed Boyfriend Jeans!

Jeans are a wardrobe staple and most of us practically live in them. Unfortunately, as amazing as jeans are, with constant use they tend to loose their shape and stop being as tight as we'd like them to be. This happened with one of my favourite pair of jeans and it went from being my go-to-jeans to my chucked-in-a-corner-jeans. It was a good thing I didn't throw them out though because they were the perfect pair of jeans for me to turn into ripped, distressed boyfriend jeans! Here's how we did it.

You'll need:
- Old faded jeans (or any jeans you want)
- Pencil/Chalk
- Pumice stone/Sandpaper/Rough surface
- Tweezers

How to:
- Wearing the jeans, mark out all the places you would like rips and distressing with the pencil or chalk. Wearing the jeans will let you see where the rips and distressing will look best.
- The key to perfectly distressing your jeans is to ensure you create different sized rips and distressing on both sides of the jeans at random spots. Symmetry will not look good.

- To create a distressing, cut out two slits in your jeans.

- Using your tweezers, pull out all the blue threads that go vertically.

- It's a slightly time consuming process but what you will be left with is horizontal white threads that allow your skin to peek through.

- To make the rips, cut out a slit. Make the slit slightly smaller than you would like it to be as the slit will grow bigger with use.

- Using your pumice stone or your something rough, go over the slit till you have some threads sticking out. Do this till you get your desired effect.

- Make sure to try the jeans on as you go along to ensure you'e happy with the progress. Make any adjustments as need be.
- Fold up the legs of the jeans till they're just above your ankles, throw on a pair of heels and enjoy all the attention your new boyfriend jeans is going to get you!

xx,
LLV
